The Castiglione, circa 1890 Folded fan, the double sheet of black satin painted on the left with a large figure under an Italian countal crown. It is probably the figure "VOC" of the Countess Castiglione, Virginia Oldoïni, Countess Verasis de Castiglione (1837-1899), a great Parisian socialite, known in particular for having been the mistress of the Emperor Napoleon III. Dumb reverse. Brown tortoiseshell mounting**. Brace, and tassel of passementerie. Engraved and gilded on the reverse with the name of the Parisian fan maker "Geslin à Paris". H.t. 35 cm-H.f. 21 cm (good condition) N.B. the Metropolitan museum of New-York owns a fan of the Castiglione decorated in the center of its figure or initial "V" under a countal crown in the center of the throat (inv. 24.80.35).
