Patent clasp fan, circa 1878 Folded, system fan, the black silk leaf painted with a young woman in Spanish costume gazing longingly at a love letter lying near her. Signed on the left "B. Colombel". Berthe Colombel, artist born in Paris, student of Millet. Dumb reverse. Handwritten indication in gilt ink on the left "van Holy La Haye" (Netherlands). Wooden frame painted with foliage and medallions enhanced with mother-of-pearl. The top of the plumes is equipped with a metal fastening system to keep the fan closed. Mark "E.K. Breveté SGDG" indicating an invention of the fan-maker Ernest Kees, patented in 1878. Metal hanger. H.t. 29,8 cm-H.f. 17 cm (wear) Read: M.
