The Battlefield, ca. 1850 Folded fan, the double sheet of lithographed paper painted with gouache of a scene evoking the reign of Louis XIV. In the center, a woman in a sedan chair with the coat of arms of the Spanish crown addresses a warlord. On the left, two soldiers in the shelter of an embankment observe a battlefield where armies are confronting each other. On both sides, rich blue and gold scrolls on a copper background. The reverse side is decorated with a gallant scene in the taste of the XVIIIth century, framed by flowers and stylized volutes on a midnight blue and copper background. White mother-of-pearl mount cut, engraved and gilded with flowers and three painted cartels of birds and flowers. The reverse side engraved and gilded with flowers and foliage. Metal clasp. H.t. 29 cm-H.f. 9,4 cm (worn, missing)
