The Press of Youth, ca. 1770-1780 Folded fan, the leaf in skin, mounted in English, engraved and painted with gouache. A winegrower has installed a new kind of wine press. Old women come and go through the press to regain their youth. Some abandon their canes, others hold glasses of wine in their hands. As soon as they leave, they are greeted by young lovers. An elderly woman, on a chariot pulled by a boy, advances a heavy purse marked "174" on her lap. A phylactery in Spanish reads "Nuba Fabrica para remozar Viejas" or New Factory to Rejuvenate Old Women. Reverse painted with a sketch of a cottage and two trees. Ivory frame*, plumes painted with flowers. H.t. 28,5 cm-H.f. 14 cm (wear)
