Agar and Ishmael, ca. 1750 - Lot 106
Agar and Ishmael, ca. 1750 Folded fan, the leaf in skin, mounted in English, and painted with gouache. In a forest, exhausted by the journey, Ishmael is lying on the ground. Agar, his mother, is visited by the Angel. The composition can be compared to the work of Joseph Christ (1731-1788). Reverse: the Angel addresses Hagar. Original mounting in white mother-of-pearl pierced, engraved, silvered and gilded with motifs evoking grains of rice. In the center, two exotic birds among flowers. H.t. 29,5 cm-H.f. 14,3 cm (stains, accidents and restorations)
