Sandalwood carved telescopic fan, China, circa 1850 Folded fan, with a system called "telescopic" allowing the strands to slide inside the leaf in order to reduce its size once the fan is closed. The double paper sheet, painted with gouache of a large palace scene open on terraces where an important court composed of 30 characters is gathered. Each one is dressed in silk in relief, with a head in ivory*. In the center, a woman stands in a fighting position, with an open fan in her hand, facing a venerable man. Reverse side painted with a palace scene animated with 30 characters. Sandalwood frame pierced and engraved with characters. Metal gilded clasp. H.t. 28 cm-H.f. 11 cm- Closed : 23,3 cm (cuts, wear, restorations)
