Pocket fan, China, 19th century Folded fan, with a system called "telescopic" allowing the strands to slide inside the sheet in order to reduce its size once the fan is closed. The double sheet of paper painted with gouache of a very numerous assembly of 71 characters. All wear silk clothes and a head in cut ivory*. Reverse side painted with three views, perhaps of the Pearl River, among bats, dragons on a silver background. Bone mount, pierced and engraved. The plumes carved with characters in bamboo gardens animated by pavilions. Gilded metal clasp, tassel of trimmings. H.t. 26 cm-H.f. 11,2 cm - Closed : 19 cm (wear)
