Mother-of-pearl reflections, China, mid-19th century Folded fan, the double sheet of paper, painted with gouache, on both sides, of palace scenes animated by a large assembly of 50 characters. Each one wears a silk suit in relief and an ivory head*. White mother-of-pearl and black mother-of-pearl mounting, said to be from Tahiti, engraved in light relief with characters in gardens.
