Daily life, China, early 18th century Folded fan, the double sheet in painted skin of a city surrounded by a fence protecting a palace. All around, pagodas, a river and paths used by a number of characters, on foot or on horseback, carrying bales or pushing a wheelbarrow. View of a river lined with pavilions on the reverse side, and animated by fishermen in boats. Fine ivory frame*, the throat painted in red with golden flowers. The head is decorated with a brown tortoiseshell plate**. Metal clasp. H.t. 25,5 cm-H.f. 14,5 cm (wear, restorations) See a similar fan in the collections of the Musée de la Compagnie des Indes de Lorient (inv. 2017.15.1).
