Jean-Baptiste PILLEMENT (1728-1808) - Lot 16
Jean-Baptiste PILLEMENT (1728-1808) Scene of a stag hunt, Gouache on paper 36 x 47 cm. Signed lower right In addition to a prodigious career as a decorative painter that took him from Lyon to Warsaw, via Paris, Madrid, Lisbon, London, Turin, Milan, Rome, Toulouse and Bordeaux, Pillement produced independent drawings for the market and for printmaking. This deer hunting scene is certainly from his first London period, between 1754 and 1760, and is to be related to a commercially successful boar hunting scene engraved in London by William Woolett (1735-1785).
