Fréderic-Jules RUDOLPHI (1808 -1872). att.à. Cup with chimeras. Carved jasper cup with rich silver, vermeil, mother-of-pearl, pearls and enamel setting. The cup in jasper probably of the XVIIth century, carved with motives of scroll enchased of vine in vermeil the enamelled leaves and the grapes set with pearls, on the cup a winged chimera ridden by a putti, the body formed by a blowing of pearls, armed with a trident chasing a lizard opposite the cup. It rests on a doucine foot engraved with vine motifs, the terrace set with mabeled pearls bears in its center a palm tree against which are leaned two chimeras alternating with children holding a shield. H. : 26 cm, W. : 19,5 cm, D. : 9 cm Gross weight : 1 266 g About 1845. Boar's head hallmark This exceptional piece of silverware illustrates all the characteristics of Frédéric-Jules Rudolphi's art : the taste for polychromy, the use of techniques hitherto neglected, such as enamel, as well as the presence of hard stones and pearls.
