Pair of painted wooden doors with three registers of flowere - Lot 261
Pair of painted wooden doors with three registers of flowered vases and foliage in grisaille on a background painted in imitation of lemon tree, in the upper part cherubs holding two torsos support medallions in the manner of Wedgwood decorated with a figure of Diana and Apollo. H. : 256 x 70 cm End of the XVIIIth century, around 1790 (Cracks, some restorations, closing system adapted to the 19th century) our doors are similar to the one from the salon of the Hôtel de Talairac kept in the Musée des Arts Décoratif. This candelabra motif, treated in trompe l'oeil, imitates a patinated bronze ornamentation framing medallions in the Wedgwood style or in porcelain on lemon wood backgrounds, according to a chromaticism particularly in favor in the 1790s. In keeping with the arabesque taste that had come back into fashion since the 1770s, this composition reflects a famous decoration of the time, the dining room of the actress Mlle Dervieux, built in 1788 on rue Chantereine by François-Joseph Bélanger, the architect of the Count of Artois.
