Pair of vases-candelabra with triton child. Chased and gilded bronze. Each ovoid vase, with neck animated by twisted flutes, the plain body, decorated with two masks of woman surrounded by branches of oak, they rest on a base decorated with acanthus leaves and four claw feet, the handles are formed by a triton child holding two cornucopias filled with fruit and ears of corn, the upper part of which can be transformed into a wick. In 1774 a pair of vases of this model is delivered for the palais-Bourdon. In 1794, a pair of them is reported to the intendance des Menus Plaisirs, which can be found in Josephine's bedroom in 1807. Other examples are preserved in the Victoria and Albert Museum, J.P. Getty, Pavlovsk Palace. Our covered examples present a certain number of variants compared to the usual model.
