A Chinese porcelain jug of the Chongzhen period (1628-1644) - Lot 155
A Chinese porcelain jug of the Chongzhen period (1628-1644) decorated with foliage friezes flanked by a double frieze of festoons. Work of the Jingdezhen kilns, Jiangxi province. It was decorated at the end of the 17th or the beginning of the 18th century with a gilded metal frame, the base with gadrooned decoration and the neck with radiating decoration, the thumb rest in the shape of a scallop shell, probably for the Ottoman market. H. : 27.5 cm (Restoration at the base of the handle, frame to be reattached). The Adrien Dubouché National Museum in Limoges has an example almost identical to ours, with a similar metal mounting (ADL 5963). There are also very similar pieces in the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul (R.Krahl, J.Ayers, Chinese ceramics in the Topkapi Saray Museum, Istanbul, pl.1630).
