* LARGE FRUIT PRESENTATION CUP. By Christofle, Paris, circa 1850. In silvered bronze, Louis XVI style, decorated with two "putti". The central frame is in the form of a vine at the foot of which two seated children hold a nest of birds in one hand and a bird in the other hand while supporting a crystal cup decorated with flower petals alternating with stars and diamond points. The whole rests on a tripod base decorated with bunches of flowers and lion's heads ending with goat's paws. Wear and tear. French work, circa 1851, without apparent hallmarks, probably from Christofle. H. : 30,5 cm - Diam. : 25,5 cm. Reference: see in Henri Bouilhet's book, Christofle 150 ans d'histoire, published by Chêne/Hachette, 1981, on page 67, a candlestick and a centerpiece with the same decoration as our bowl. This set was exhibited at the London World's Fair in 1851 at the Crystal Palace. It is therefore very likely that the cup we are presenting is part of the same table centrepiece created for this occasion by the Christofle company.
