* LARGE HARD PORCELAIN VASE. - Lot 102
* LARGE HARD PORCELAIN VASE. Manufacture Royale, Sèvres, 1837. Lancel model of the 3rd size, with gold bottomed side handles, decorated with a polychrome portrait representing King Louis-Philippe I (1773-1850) in medallion, after the portrait made in 1831 by Nicolas Gosse (1787-1878), where he wears the uniform of the National Guard with the plaque and the cordon of the order of the Legion of Honour and the insignia of the order of Leopold I of Belgium, framed by a frieze of palms and laurel in gold and platinum held by a ribboned knot, on the reverse are in a cartel the symbols illustrating the arts in gold and platinum, including music, painting, poetry and architecture, surrounded by a garland of laurel leaves gold and platinum on a blue background. The neck and the lower part ending with a square gilt bronze base are decorated with Greek and laurel friezes, palmettes, rosettes and large leaves in gold and platinum. Manufacture de Sèvres, without apparent marks. Restoration on the neck. H. : 33 cm - L. : 15 cm. Reference : the Lancel shape designed in 1829 is one of the most frequent vase shapes produced by the Manufacture de Sèvres until the Second Empire. Our vase is very close in shape and decoration to the one we sold on November 18, 2020, decorated with a medallion representing Prince Ferdinand-Philippe, Duke of Orleans. It is very likely that these two vases originally formed a pair. Provenance: this vase made by the Sèvres factory on 22 July 1837 was sold for 500 francs (Vv3, 23-77) and delivered for the Count of Neuilly [a title used by King Louis-Philippe for his personal purchases] in August 1850 (Sèvres archive reference: Vbb11, fol.35v°). A counterpart to this vase representing the Duke of Orleans was made at the same time, but sold on 24 December 1853 (V38, 90v°) for 500 francs. It is the latter that we sold on 18 November 2020 under n°121
