FURNITURE OF THE DUKE OF PENTHIEVRE. - Lot 34
FURNITURE OF THE DUKE OF PENTHIEVRE. FROM THE CASTLE OF CHANTELOUP. FROM THE LOUIS XVI PERIOD, AROUND 1780. A suite of six Louis XVI period lounge chairs, in moulded, carved and white lacquered beech wood with a frieze of water leaves, a gendarme hat back, tapered and fluted legs, green velvet upholstery. Attributed to Georges Jacob (1739-1814) or Jean-Baptiste Charles Sené (1747-1803). CP iron mark and naval anchor under crown. H. : 90 cm - W. : 55 cm - D. : 50 cm. History : former collection of Prince Louis de Bourbon, duc de Penthièvre (1725-1793), great admiral of France, for his castle of Chanteloup. See a similar model of this chair in the catalogue of the exhibition "Chanteloup, un moment de grâce, autour du duc de Choiseul", which specifies: "they are probably part of the series which was in the dining room of the duke on the first floor where are mentioned "eighteen chairs of square form furnished in full wood with mouldings and fluted legs painted in white, covered with toile de Jouy matched with the curtains and the hangings (p78 of the inventory of 1787). Several other models of this series were in the Frederico Gentili di Guiseppe (1868-1940) collection, sold by the Galerie Charpentier on April 5, 1938, then put up for sale at Drouot on June 4, 1983 under n°133
