The Country Lunch, ca. 1880 Folded fan, the double sheet in painted skin after "La halte de chasse" by Carle Van Loo (1737). Signed on the left "Garnier". It is probably Garnier, painter on porcelain and fans. Goldfish mother-of-pearl mounting. The plume decorated with a carved white mother-of-pearl figure topped by a count's crown. Bélière. H.t. 28 cm-H.f. 14,3 cm (wear, accidents, restorations, stains) N.B. : other fans from the same period bear the signature "Garnier" including a fan offered by Queen Victoria to her daughter. Perhaps it is the painter working for the Sèvres porcelain factory? Read M. Volet, "European Fans", n°35, p. 52 and index.
