In the taste of Jacques Stella - Lot 13
In the taste of Jacques Stella Folded fan, double sheet of skin painted with a mountainous panorama evoking Italy and in the foreground, characters including peasants leading their animals, children playing bowls or a woman consoling a little girl. The composition is reminiscent of the "Pastorals" series by the French artist Jacques Stella (1596-1657), who worked in Italy before moving to Paris. Reverse painted with chimeras supporting garlands of flowers and foliage. Three labels show views of Italy including ancient remains: in the center the temple of Vesta on the Tiber, and a pyramid (that of Caius Cestius?). Brown tortoiseshell** frame without decoration. H.t. 29,8 cm / H.f. 16,3 cm (wear)
