Six "war laces" needle and bobbins, Belgium, circa 1914-1915 - Lot 426
Six "war laces" needle and bobbins, Belgium, circa 1914-1915. Five needle laces, one oval shape mounted on a cotton tulle, with the Belgian coat of arms and two listels "l'union fait la force" and "Vive le Roi", and two branches linked by a heart and bearing each a listel "Belgium" and "1914 to 1915" (broken bridles) two others with the coat of arms, and two with the names of Belgian cities. (accidents) And a tablecloth with a bobbin lace frame decorated with the rose and the edelweiss, motifs created by the Belgian lacemakers in honour of Queen Elisabeth, wife of King Albert I of Belgium. Originally from Bavaria, Queen Elisabeth loved these two flowers. Dim. 1 m x 1 m (good condition, rare pale halos on the central linen) We enclose a doily, the center in needle lace with characters and the surround in spread threads (good condition)
