Two embroidered handkerchiefs, mid-19th century. In hand-woven linen very finely embroidered in plumetis and sand stitch, including: A handkerchief well embroidered with bouquets of blooming flowers and garlands of fuchsias, hearts of flowers and cartouches adorned with Alençon-type needlepoint fashions, hemmed with a handmade needlepoint flounce of later period. (good condition, modes broken at two medallions in a corner). And a large handkerchief with sprays of carnations, pansies and the circumference decorated with a frieze of well-structured leaves decorated with Alençon type needlepoint, hemmed with a Valenciennes bobbin ruffle. Dim. 55 cm x 54 cm (good condition, very small localized holes on one side, a small tear on another)
