The last two versions have "La marche de troupes" as a pendant and introduce a dog behind the seated soldier in the foreground.
Among the numerous studies in the artist's blood, we can compare the "Halte de troupes" with a "Soldat assis, le mousquet sur les genoux" (12 x 14.3 cm, former coll. Camille Groult).
