D'après L'ANTIQUE. - Lot 55
D'après L'ANTIQUE. Roman horseman in tunic, the arm in armour. The figure of the horse seems to be inspired by certain reliefs of the Arch of Constantine on the Roman Forum and the equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius, but above all it takes up the composition of one of the four horses of San Marco, the famous booty brought back by the Venetians from Constantinople. Bronze with black patina, enhanced with silver elements, especially on the horse's harness. (some patina wears and small lacks) Naples, early 19th century H.: 49 cm, W.: 48 cm, D.: 22 cm
