ATTRIBUÉ À JOHN HASLEM (1808-1884). - Lot 365
ATTRIBUÉ À JOHN HASLEM (1808-1884). Portrait of the young Queen Victoria of Great Britain in her dressing room at the Opera. Painted on a large porcelain plate, preserved in an antique giltwood frame carved with stylized motifs. Slight wear and tear, but overall good condition. Sight: H.: 29.5 cm - W.: 24 cm. Frame: H.: 49.5 cm - W.: 45 cm. History: this large miniature on porcelain is inspired by the portrait painted by Edmond Thomas Parris (1793-1873) representing the same scene, but with a variation in the colors and details. In this 1837 portrait, the young sovereign appears on the balcony of the royal box wearing a Russian diamond tiara, which was worn by Britain's current sovereign at her wedding in 1947. This portrait is currently in the collections of Queen Elizabeth II at Kensington Palace.
