LARGE "RETICULATED" VASE, ROYAL MANUFACTURE, SÈVRES, 1846. O - Lot 205
LARGE "RETICULATED" VASE, ROYAL MANUFACTURE, SÈVRES, 1846. Of baluster form, with a neck flaring upwards, resting on a square gilt bronze base, decorated with a double wall, the outer layer of which is openwork with tiny polychrome motifs in red, white and gold, enhanced by a frieze of arabesques and floral motifs in turquoise and gold. This rare model produced by the Manufacture de Sèvres, forms by this technique of Chinese inspiration a true lace of porcelain as fine as fragile. Its implementation is a real technical feat. Gold Sèvres mark and monogram L.P. (Louis-Philippe) under crown, 1846. Slight wear from time but very good general condition. H. : 55 cm - W. : 15,5 cm - D. : 15,5 cm. History : the reticulated creations are the most audacious pieces realized at the Sèvres factory during the reign of King Louis-Philippe. They were very much appreciated by Queen Marie-Amélie, who ordered seven tea services between 1835 and 1843, to be used as diplomatic gifts. This work was often the work of Hyacinthe Régnier, sculptor-modeller of the factory from 1825 to 1863. To conceive this expensive and refined reticulated decoration, he was inspired by ancient Chinese porcelain, adding a very fine openwork decoration and a lively polychromy characteristic of this period.
