VOYAGE DE LA DUCHESSE DE BERRY. - Lot 182
VOYAGE DE LA DUCHESSE DE BERRY. Handwritten report of seven pages signed Turpin, entitled "Voyage de la duchesse Berry sur l'Agathe", addressed to the maritime prefect at the port of Toulon and dated June 8, 1833, folio format. Freckles and traces of humidity. History: this historical document relates the voyage of the Duchess of Berry, born Princess Marie-Caroline of Bourbon-Siciles (1798-1870), embarked on the corvette the Agathe from Blaye in Gironde to Palermo. These pages were written by the commander, Louis Turpin (1790-1848), future rear-admiral of the French navy, and probably intended for Claude du Camp de Rosamel (1774-1845), maritime prefect of Toulon. During this trip to exile, the princess was accompanied by a suite composed of a doctor, an abbot, a chambermaid, a nurse, the child she had just given birth to on May 10, 1833, named Rosalie, from her union with Hector Lucchesi-Palli (1808-1864), the prince and princess of Bauffremont, the count of Mesnard, M. de Lucchesi-Palli and General Bugeaud (King Louis-Philippe's emissary sent to ensure that the princess arrived at her destination, following her failed attempt to overthrow Louis-Philippe). The trip lasted from June 8 to July 7, 1833.
