KIRAZ, Edmond Kirazian, dit (1923-2020) - Lot 31
KIRAZ, Edmond Kirazian, dit (1923-2020) LES PARISIENNES. It's for you that we're honking the horn. Superb and very emblematic drawing from the world of Kiraz. Illustration published in the Jours de France n°297 of July 23rd, 1960. Pencil lead, gouache and wash. Dimensions: 21.5 x 23.2 cm. Signed by the author. Edmond Kirazian, known as Kiraz, was born in Cairo in 1923 into a Francophile family of Armenian origin. Self-taught, he began his career as a political cartoonist and cartoonist at the age of 17. In 1946, he moved to Paris and immediately fell under the charm of its inhabitants. He is particularly known for his numerous illustrations on the theme of Parisian women and are abundantly published in many magazines. The long, wide-eyed silhouettes drawn by Kiraz are always sophisticated and elegant, both ingenious and scatterbrained, mainly preoccupied with shopping and fashion. He will collaborate with many magazines such as Ici Paris, Gala, Paris Match, Glamour, or Playboy, but it is especially with Jours de France that he will express his saga of Parisian women from 1959 to 1987.
