TRUBERT, Jean (1909 -1983) Conte de provence, the devil is a prisoner! Gouache on paper. Stamp of the author, Parisian publishing company. Size: 14 x 24 cm. Jean Trubert, a protean French illustrator, was marked during his youth by the works of Benjamin Rabier, Gustave Doré and Caran d'Ache, then St Ogan. He developed talents as an abstract painter, illustrator, author but also... boxer. Among his comrades, colleagues and friends are Rigot, Peynet, Joubert, Lecureux, Hergé, Jacobs, Pellos, Calvo? He has worked for advertising, for youth illustration (for example at Junior, Vaillant, his favourite theme being the fantastic Middle Ages), made press drawings, comic strips (with for example the Don Quichotte series published in Tintin, or the revival of the famous Bécassine at Gautier Langereau). We add: Les deux amis au chapeau de paille, illustration by the same artist. Dimensions: 28 x 38 cm. India ink on paper.
