A ceremonial caparison in full silver embroidery of its pair - Lot 152
A ceremonial caparison in full silver embroidery of its pair of cast iron, first half of the 18th century, fringed cover marrying the horse's rump and pairs of cast iron pistol grip covered by a crimson silk velvet chaperon embroidered in an opulent Louis XIV style decoration. Applied embroidery in guipure and couchure, mainly in gold and silver metallic yarn, blade, cannetille and cord with inclusions of metallic lace. Decoration of alternating palms framing a finial and flowers in bloom with sinuous foliage. Original leather lining and pistol cases, (stitching on the leather, fringe of the cast iron deposited, wear and tear), Examples of comparable complete sets are rare; the Army Museum preserves three of them dating from the second half of the 18th century. Possible provenance; Spain, in the suite of Philip V.
