View of Munich, ca. 1870 Folded fan, the buff silk sheet painted with a broad panoramic view of the city of Munich, from the Maximilansanlagen park overlooking the river Isar, with the Maximilaneum castle in the left foreground. In a frame of sheaves of wheat, oats and roses. Monogrammed "WT" for Therese Weber at the bottom center. Therese Weber (1813-1875), German painter and botanist, is one of the most famous of her time. King Ludwig II of Bavaria ordered hundreds of fans from her to be given as gifts. He gave 50 to his mother Marie, each with a European city view, now very rare. Dull back. Brown tortoiseshell** frame. Bracket. H.t. 31,5 cm H.t. 15,5 cm (small stains) Provenance : Sothebys sale, 17 December 2008, "Property from Royal and noble families".
