Apollo on the chariot of the sun, circa 1790-1800 Broken type fan in ivory*, painted in frieze, after the famous fresco "The Chariot of Dawn" by Guido Reni in the Rospigliosi Pallavicini Palace in Rome. On the upper part, each strand is cut and engraved with a different and delicate composition. Amongst others, a peacock, an owl, Pegasus, Mercury's caduceus, a crowing cock, a bird behind the bars of its cage, the fable of the fox and the stork after La Fontaine are illustrated. On the plumes, medallion portraits of Dido and Aeneas surmount representations of a man and a woman in the company of a love. H.t. 24.8 cm (very good condition, small old restoration to the paint)
