Fan with animation, circa 1780 - Lot 123
Fan with animation, circa 1780
Rare folded fan, presenting two animation systems in the plumes.
The cream silk leaf painted with exotic compositions with umbrellas, in applied silk, framing a young woman holding a bird with a ribbon while she opened her cage.
Reverse side: flowers and repetition of the scrolls of the face.
Mounting in pierced ivory*, carved, engraved and gilded. On the upper part, the plumes have oval medallions under glass. On the first plume, the arm of the small cooper rises and falls in front of his barrel to simulate the movements of the craftsman. On the second plume, a young woman raises and lowers her arm to carry a small bird close to her face.
The miniature mechanisms are housed in the thickness of the plume. They are set in motion by a small button on the outer edge of the medallion, which can be turned in either direction.
