Dido's Despair, ca. 1760 - Lot 117
Dido's Despair, ca. 1760 Folded fan, the leaf in skin, mounted in English and painted with gouache of an ancient palace interior. In the centre, seated on a bed of rest, Dido glares in despair at Aeneas who is leaving her. Councillors, soldiers and servants around her appear preoccupied. On the reverse, three pastoral scenes in the taste of Watteau. Very original ivory* mount finely pierced and engraved with a decoration of leaves and fruits reminiscent of lace or indian. H.t. 28 cm-H.f. 13,4 cm (small damages and restorations)
