Jewel fan, Les amours naissantes, circa 1730-1740 - Lot 71
Jewel fan, Les amours naissantes, circa 1730-1740 Exceptional folded fan, the double gouache-painted paper sheet of a gallant scene in a country setting in front of a ruined portico. Borders and labels with Chinese subjects enhanced with gilding. Reverse side painted with a surprising trompe-l'oeil decoration of fan leaves with Chinese subjects enhanced with gilding. Rare ivory* frame carved with a frieze of flowers, enhanced with chased gold hearts. The plumes are carved with a waving stem on which are hanging leaves drawn in silver piqué, the flowers in chased and applied gold. In the lower part, an important gold plate very delicately chased with cartels, volutes and a vase. H.t. 28 cm-H.f. 16,2 cm (minor wear and restorations) NB: the vast majority of the so-called "jewel fans", reserved for an elite, and dating from the 18th century, have now disappeared. They are often known only by their representation in portraits
