The City of Naples, Italy, ca. 1720-1730 Folded fan, commissioned, the painted skin sheet of a view of the city of Naples from the sea. In the foreground, on a chariot drawn by two horses, Minerva and Renown present the painted portrait of a soldier in armor. A triton on the left holds a standard decorated with a double-headed eagle, perhaps recalling the Habsburg coat of arms. Grey foliage border on the reverse. Pierced and engraved ivory* mount with a couple and flowers. The head, onion-shaped, is decorated with a white mother-of-pearl plate. The plumes carved with a flute player and a woman. H.t. 26,5 cm-H.f. 15,2 cm (wear of the paint on the sides, small restoration to a strand) N.B. : during the war of the Spanish succession, Austria conquered Naples (1701-1714) and held it until 1734
