Journey to the East, early 18th century Rare ivory* fan of broken type painted on both sides of a man of quality, in the center, sitting on an armchair. Servants are busy around him. The cartel is surrounded by two Pho dogs whose tongues draw volutes. Their heads are covered with brown scales**. The top of the strands decorated with a swastika, symbol of Eternity. H.t. 25,5 cm NB: A very similar fan is preserved in the collections of the V&A Museum in London (acc. nb. 2256-1876). It illustrates the cover of "Fan from the East", Debrett/ V&A, 1978
