CEREMONIAL SWORD OF THE GENERAL DE PRÉVAL. Gilded bronze frame, decorated with a helmet head, keyboard decorated in relief with a crowned eagle, surrounded by a laurel wreath. Fuse with mother-of-pearl plates. White triangular blade engraved with foliage on its first third. Broken point, without scabbard, restorations. Period: First Empire. L. :100 cm. Provenance: this sword belonged to General Claude-Antoine de Préval (1776-1853), when he was chief of staff of Marshal Kellermann in 1813. As stated in the accompanying certificate. The general was Inspector of Cavalry in 1811, member of the War Council in 1814, Chief of Staff and Inspector General of the Gendarmerie in May 1814, and Director of Infantry and Cavalry at the Ministry of War. He was made Knight of the Order of St. Louis, Viscount and Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour in 1843.
