VON MEYENDORFF Théophile Baron (1886-1971) - Lot 295
VON MEYENDORFF Théophile Baron (1886-1971) Portrait of Princess Marina of Greece (1906-1968), wife of Prince George, Duke of Kent. Round miniature on ivory, signed lower right "Th. de Meyendorff", circa 1934, preserved under curved glass in a gilt brass frame. Good condition. Diameter: 5 cm. History: Princess Marina was the daughter of Prince Nicholas of Greece and Grand Duchess Helen Wladimirovna of Russia. In 1934 she entered into a brilliant union with the Duke of Kent, the youngest son of King George V of Great Britain, who became a member of the British Royal Family. Seven weeks after the birth of their third child, Prince Michael, her husband died (August 25, 1942) in a plane crash in Scotland. Widowed at the age of 36, the Duchess continued her official duties. As a result, she became one of the most popular members of the English Royal Family, greatly admired for her beauty, charm and elegance.
