War lace, Point de Paris, spindles, Belgium, ca. 1917-1918. Centrepiece with a finely bobbin lace border illustrating the four animals emblematic of four of the Allied countries during the First World War: the eagle for the USA, the crawling lion for Belgium, the rooster for France, the unicorn and the crawling lion for the United Kingdom. White cotton. Dim. laid flat: 65 cm x 41 cm, H. lace: 8 cm (nice condition, bleached, pinholes in linnen). A runner edged with a rare Belgian "War Lace" of handmade point de Paris bobbin lace dating from about 1917-1918, and depicting four animals, emblems of four of the allied countries in the second world war: the eagle for the USA, the lion for Belgian, the rooster for France, the unicorn and the lion for the United Kingdom. Cotton, white in colour. Dim. if laid flat : 65 cm x 41 cm, H. border of lace : 8 cm (very good condition, washed, a very few gathered pinholes in the cloth)
