Folded fan with angel and swallow, Brussels, circa 1900-1910.
Rare and beautiful decoration in fine Brussels lace with a charming spring scene with symbols of love, the central motifs applied on a cotton tulle, the border following cartouches inlaid in the tulle and adorned with various stitches.
In the centre, an angel with outstretched wings and holding in his hands an armful of large periwinkles, symbol of sadness and melancholy, turns his face towards a large swallow in full flight, a messenger full of hope. On the left, two daffodils, symbol of vanity but also of renewal, attract a butterfly with ribbed wings. To the right are large pansy flowers, symbol of love, with their buds and foliage, and soft periwinkle stems on each side of the leaf. (good condition, rare small stains) Engraved and pierced mother-of-pearl
frame, gilding and silvering with a pattern of flowers and leaflets, bone arrows, metal bélière. (good condition, two arrows damaged) Frame
height: 24,5 cm. Leaf height: 15 cm.
In a box covered with fabric with friezes of flowers, marked in gold under the lid "BENJAMIN LACHELIN, Eventailliste, 32 Avenue de l'Opéra, PARIS"
