Sumptuous handwheel in Brussels Application, needle and spindles, circa 1860-70. Very wide, with a remarkable decoration of imperial fritillaries finely made with needlepoint, inlaid in a fine cotton tulle and supported by a wide frieze of volubilis and roses with spindle-shaped roses punctuated by supple cut leaves made with gauze stitch, wide, well-structured border by elegant cartouches decorated with alternating needlework patterns with supple, finely worked leafy stems on spindles applied to the tulle, foliage in gauze stitch festooned along the border. Light ivory cotton. Dim. 5.20 m x 38 cm (good condition, dusty) To be compared with the shawls made in the same technique that were presented by Verdé, Delisle & Cie at the Universal Exhibition of 1867 in Paris.
