Dragonfly and butterfly beards, needle, circa 1780-90. Decorated with small bouquets tied with a floating ribbon, butterflies and dragonflies, the borders decorated with medallions, flowers and leaflets. Curious lace technique imitating to perfection the Argentan lace with this unusual needle-knotted stitch network taking up the hexagonal shape of the Argentan network stitches, the motifs inlaid with linen and embroidered with the needle in relief. Creamy linen. (good condition, rare fine network restorations) Dim. 66 cm and 67 cm x 8 cm. A pair of lappets dating from about 1780-90, with an unusual knotted ground in imitation of the French Argentan needle lace, floral motifs with little butterflies and dragonflies onto the knotted ground. Linen thread, cream in colour. (good condition, a very few fine repairs to the ground) Dim. 66 cm & 67 cm x 8 cm.
