Rare pair of beards, needle, France, circa 1720-30. Very fine needle flax yarn, probable production of Sedan. Boteh motifs embedded in a sumptuous foliage and flower decoration sumptuously decorated with a wide variety of stitches including Argentella variants, the contours of the foliage and boteh motifs underlined by fine relief embroidery. Cream-coloured linen, joined by three seams at the top of the beards. Cf. "Lace a History" Mme Santina M. Levey, Fig. 273B & 294 A pair of lappets in fine French handmade needle lace, worked in various stitches, possibly Sedan stitch. Fine linen thread, cream in colour, dating from about 1720-30.
