Rare Brussels needlepoint lace, circa 1720-30. Extremely finely crafted lace border, decorated with large leaves, blooming flowers and cartouches decorated with various stitches. Cream-coloured linen. Dim. 3.90 m x 4 cm of which 50 cm of a different model (good condition, stitching) Cf. "Lace a History" Mrs. Santina M. Levey Fig.293C & D Provenance: Phillips sale, London, January 1999. A rare border of Brussels handmade lace extremely finely worked in needle point, designed with exotic blooms and feathery foliage, finely detailed and ornated with various stitches, dating from about 1720-30.
