Bicephalous eagle border, Gros Point de Venise, 3rd quarter - Lot 160
Bicephalous eagle border, Gros Point de Venise, 3rd quarter of the 17th century. The border in Gros Point de Venise needlepoint has a rare double-headed eagle motif from which foliated foliage and flowers in various stitches, punctually embroidered in over-thickness, emerge in perfect axial symmetry; the motifs are linked by thin pocketed flanges with a few pocketed rings. Ivory-coloured linen. Dim. 105 cm x 18 cm (good general condition, some discrete small restorations)
