Rare needlepoint lace border, England, circa 1630-40. The "Van Dyck" type has a well constructed decoration of stylized flowers with geometrical shapes and scalloped flowers on the lower edge. Light ivory linen. Dim. flat: 88 cm x 10 cm. (good condition) See "Lace a History" Mrs. Santina M. Levey, Fig.173 & 174. Edging of English needle lace, dating from about 1630-40, decorated with stylised flowers very finely worked in needle. Linen thread, light ivory colour.
