Rare pulled thread border, needle, Italy, late 16th century. Dismantled from a hand-woven linen cloth worked in pulled threads embroidered with a reserve of canvas, vertical decoration of figures following one another: a birdcatcher, a tulip lady in hand, a crowned eagle with outstretched wings and a medieval castle. Pattern ratio: 43 cm. Dim. 1.35 m x 6 cm. (good overall condition, a cut at the border) Cf. "The History of Lace" Mme Margaret Simeon, p.4 pl.1 An Italian border of hand spun and woven linen with drawn thread work depicting four repeating figures, a man with a bird, a lady with a tulip, a crowned eagle and a medieval castle, dating from the end of the 16th c. Dim. 1,35 m x 6 cm , pattern repeat : 43 cm (in good overall condition, a cut at the border)
