LARGE COVERED VASE. - Lot 336
LARGE COVERED VASE. Imperial Manufactory, St Petersburg, 1825-1855. In hard porcelain, of baluster form, ending on a square gilt-bronze base, the central part is decorated with a panoramic view in polychrome porcelain, representing Roman ruins on the heights of the Bay of Naples against the background of the smoking Vesuvius and the Carthusian monastery of St. Martin of Naples, - probably after a painting by Jacob Philippe Hackert (1737-1807), from the Hermitage collections - framed with royal blue porcelain elements. Chased gilt bronze frame decorated with a large frieze of water leaves and acanthus leaves. The upper base is surmounted by a gilt bronze pine cone. Restorations on the lower parts of the blue background and small accidents in the gilding, but good general condition. Blue marks on the reverse side of the foot: H. I. (Nicolas I (1825-1855)) under the imperial crown and n° 2. 4. F. H. : 110 cm - W. : 43 cm. Reference : The artist was inspired for the realization of this work by the views published in the work Voyage pittoresque ou description des royaumes de Naples et de Sicile, Paris 1781.
