MEMORIAL OF THE DEATH OF EMPEROR ALEXANDER III (1845-1894). Commemorative testimony to the death of Emperor Alexander III, who died in Livadia, on November 1 (October 20 according to the Russian calendar) 1894, at the age of 49. Large ribbon in moiré silk taffeta, black color, embroidered with the inscription in Cyrillic characters: "Russia" and "In memory", on the reverse side is sewn another ribbon in the tricolour of Russia. Attached is a handwritten autograph letter, explaining the origin of this historical testimony, signed "Véra Belaousoff" addressed to Monsieur Georges Souverain, 1 ½ pages, in-4°, text in French, preserved with its envelope. The set is presented in its original natural wood box with the recipient's handwritten inscription on the lid. Some damages, but good condition. Ribbon : H.: 6 cm - L.: 80 cm. Box : H.: 8 cm - L.: 37 cm. Text : "Sir, having received one of the bouquets so graciously sent from you, I come to ask you to accept from mine this bookmark made by me. This work, in addition to its purpose, will serve to remind you of the sorrow which has just struck Russia, in which France has taken such a lively part and which deeply touches us. This memory is reinforced by the inscription embroidered at the end of the ribbon and which contains the following words: "As a token of our gratitude and deep sorrow, October 20, 1894", the entire inscription meaning the word Russia. Thanking you again for your sympathy and attention, I declare myself a supporter of the Franco-Russian alliance. »
