RABIER, Benjamin (1864-1939) THE SHEEP (1905) Pencil, Indian ink and watercolour on paper. Plate of illustrations accompanied by its coloring realized within the framework of La Fontaine's Fables published by Tallandier in 1906. Benjamin Rabier, a French illustrator renowned for his children's publications, his laughing cow and his character of the duck Gédéon, illustrates here the misadventures of a sheep. The round and dynamic line is characteristic of one of the greatest European animal illustrators of the time, supported at the beginning by Caran d'Ache and much admired by Hergé. Piece with its original frame. Size of the plate: 28 x 35 cm and dimensions of the colouring: 23,5 x 29,5 cm.
